DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports to: President & CEO
Department: Administrative

At the Council on Aging, our mission is to enhance the lives of older adults through services and compassionate care designed to improve the health, independence and economic security of Nassau County seniors and their families.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Development Coordinator supports the overall efforts to raise awareness of the needs of older adults and generate charitable support for the Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA). Reporting to the Development Director, the position supports relationships with individuals, corporations and foundations and assists with the implementation of the organization’s annual development strategy. The Coordinator oversees the execution of all special events, annual donor mailings, donor acknowledgment, and database management. In addition, the position facilitates marketing and communication strategies that support fundraising such as public relations, social media, earned media, the development website and more.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Assist with the development and execution of NCCOA’s development strategy.
      • Coordinate and manage the annual calendar of development activities and programs.
        Events
      • Successfully manage all aspects of organizational fundraising events including mailing lists, invitations, event logistics, ticketing, etc.
      • With the Development Director, establish event budgets, volunteer leadership needed, and proposed fundraising goals.
      • Support efforts to identify, cultivate and solicit event sponsorships and attendees.
      • Partner with marketing and other departments for the successful planning and execution of events.
        Annual Giving/Communications
      • With the Development Director, develop an annual communications plan that outlines content/frequency of direct mail appeals, newsletter, e-newsletters, social media, etc.
      • Determine how to effectively grow the number of donor prospects; produce targeted mailing lists for communications, solicitations, and invitations.
      • Research and develop compelling message/content for appeals, newsletters, annual report, event invitations and other development materials.
      • Oversee the production of digital and print annual appeals; track individual appeal performance and return on investment.
      • With the Development Director, develop effective strategies to secure new donors, increase giving levels of existing donors, and maximize donor retention year-over-year.
        Grants
      • Assist with the preparation of donor proposals and grant applications including the research, identification, development and response to public and private grant opportunities.
      • Submit timely grant applications including letters, proposals, budgets and presentations.
      • Acknowledge gifts from funders and complete required grant reports as outlined in grant awards.
      • Monitor the financial management of grants for the purpose of complying with all program and funding guidelines of awarding organizations.
        Database
      • Oversee the donor database, Donor Perfect, to include gift entry and processing, timely gift acknowledgment, and maintaining donor records.
      • Record and track all gifts and pledges; prepares pledge agreements and pledge reminders; follows up on outstanding pledge commitments.
      • Prepare effective letters of appreciation for donors and follow procedures for the proper receipt and acknowledgement of gifts.
      • Create and produce appropriate donor and gift reports for the Development Director, CEO and Board of Directors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

      • Knowledge of the community care system and the array of community-based services and resources available to address the needs of older adults and their caregivers.
      • Ability to identify appropriate funding strategies and sources for older adults.
      • Previous success in fundraising demonstrated by the identification, cultivation and solicitation of charitable support from individual donors, corporations and foundations would be a plus.
      • Experience in managing donor communications and marketing, annual giving, donor databases, and special events.
      • Knowledge of best practices in nonprofit fundraising.
      • Proficiency in database management, Excel, Power Point, Word, other computer skills.
      • Knowledge of Nassau County and existing personal and professional relationships.
      • Ability to proactively anticipate and efficiently solve problems.
      • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and a relentless drive toward high-level outcomes.
      • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and effectively prioritize in a fast-paced work environment to meet tight deadlines and consistently achieve income targets.
      • Proven ability to collaborate with staff to develop appropriate plans.
      • Ability to cultivate formal and informal relationships with a diverse population of community leaders and volunteers.
      • Ability to remain composed under stress, handle criticism tactfully and take responsibility for delivering on organizational commitments.
      • Ability to proactively address issues as they arise and mitigate risks associated to the NCCOA.

SUPERVISION:

      • Performs duties under the supervision of the Development Director.

WORK EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

      • BA or BS degree required with two to three years of development, communications/marketing, non-profit or related experience.
      • Experience working with older adults or other vulnerable population in a customer focused environment (Preferred).
      • Must be a self-starter and work well independently and collaboratively.
      • Excellent relationship building, interpersonal and public speaking skills.
      • Strong oral and written communication skills.
      • Must pass the Level 2 background check required by DOEA.
      • Must adhere to Drug Free Workplace standards.
      • Must have use of personal vehicle for outreach purposes.
      • Must have a valid driver’s license.

EDUCATION:

      • BA or BS in Business, Journalism or Communications preferred.

PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS:

      • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
      • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
      • Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, delivering and using the telephone.
      • Able to lift 30 pounds and help in set up/take down of event equipment.

REGISTERED NURSE

Nassau County Council on Aging seeks a part-time Registered Nurse in our Fernandina Beach office for our Advocate Home HealthCare and “The Club” Adult Day HealthCare programs.

The Registered Nurse is tasked with assigning selected portions of non-skilled care to members using our staff of Certified Nursing Assistants and Home Health Aides. Retains full responsibility for the care given and assures that aides are trained and qualified for tasks assigned. Observes competency skill set of HHAides/CNAs and records analysis on check list. Works with Home Health schedulers to ascertain new service availability. Supervises Certified Nursing Assistants and Home Health Aides and provides ongoing training in The Club Adult Day HealthCare program for the care and wellbeing of the members. Completes admissions assessments; creates and updates care plans with input from family caregivers; ensures that care plans are followed; maintains and reviews all documentation and logs; and ensures a safe, nurturing environment for members and their families.

Requirements include:

      • 20 to 30 hours per week.
      • Registered Nursing degree, currently licensed in the State of Florida.
      • At least two years of experience preferred.
      • MS Office proficiency
      • Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor.
      • The position reports to the Home Health, Training & Caregiver Services Director.
      • A Level 2 background check is required. Zero tolerance drug/alcohol workplace.

Compensation: $30 per hour.
