Public Transportation
The public transportation system in Nassau County, NassauTRANSIT – operated by Nassau County Council on Aging – provides both scheduled public bus and registered paratransit services.
NassauTRANSIT offers Island Hopper public transportation service six days per week. Need to get from the library to Walmart? From home to the pharmacy? On-demand public transportation is now available anywhere on Amelia Island, Monday through Saturday (excluding holidays). Hours are Monday through Friday from 1 pm to 5pm, and Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. The fare is still only $2 per person per boarding. During the week, call NassauTRANSIT at 904-261-0700, and on Saturdays call the “Hopperator” directly at 904-832-1218.
Paratransit Service
NassauTRANSIT has expanded paratransit service, including a more flexible Monday-Friday schedule. Also, Saturday paratransit service is now available on Amelia Island and will be available on the westside of the county, including Callahan and Hilliard, in the near future. Registered paratransit is available to all qualifying county residents and provides curbside service for medical appointments, social engagements, recreation, shopping, etc. Advance reservations are required for paratransit service and the fare is only $2 per boarding or $4 round trip.
“Paratransit” is a door-to-door service with scheduled pick-ups and drop-offs based on passengers’ requests. The expansion provides more access to work, recreation, shopping, and medical and other appointments for people with limited or no personal transportation options.
Approved registration through NassauTRANSIT is required for paratransit passengers by the state of Florida.
